Calamus (Sweet-flag) is used in incense mixtures in ancient mesopotamia and by the ancient Egyptians in their kyphi mixtures, calamus root also known as 'sweet reed' and 'sweet flag'. Calamus root is said to strengthen the nerves, improve energy and be helpful during times of exhaustion and a good for Vata balancing in ayurveda.
